Should a school staff member (to include teachers, supervisors, administration, office staff or any other adult employed by the District) see a student accessing a PCD during the instructional day they will request it shall be immediately turned over. If a student refuses to surrender a device, and/or refuses to share their name, the student will be immediately subject to additional disciplinary action.
All PCDs will be transported and securely held in the GHS Main Office. Following the initial violation the PCD shall be available for the student to pick up at the end of the school day. For all subsequent violations a parent, guardian, or authorized adult (as identified by the emergency contact list in Infinite Campus) shall be required to physically come to the school office to retrieve the PCD. Should a parent/guardian be unable to retrieve the PCD on the day it was confiscated the school shall hold the device until it is able to be picked up.
School staff will not call a student down to the office for the device to be returned to them during the instructional day after a parent/guardian pick-up. The office will not hold the device once the parent/guardian has arrived. The parent/guardian must leave the building with the device at the time of pick-up.
With administrative approval, the office may be able to hold a “returned” phone until the end of the school day, at which point the student may collect it. The parent/guardian is still required to be present in person to “release” the PCD for this option to be considered.
