COMMUNICATE......COMMITMENT......CHALLENGE.....CHARACTER
The Greenfield H.S. has had a x-c team for many years. The team was very successful in the 1980’s & 90’s under Coach Mel Pinsker. In 1985 the team won the Conference X-C Title (Greenfield High School’s current Police Liaison and assistant X-C Coach Mark Thoreson was a member of that team).
By 2007 the team came to a crossroads. With low participation, the program was close to being disbanded. At that time current coaches Ernie Rosenthal (Campus Supervisor) and Cindy Harrison (Phy Ed Teacher) were selected to coach the X-C Team. Their first year as coaches brought 14 runners to the program. In 2011 we had a total of 48 members of the team. With these numbers the X-C program has begun to improve. Rather than finishing last, the team has now finished as high as second in a meet. “All-conference honors” was earned for one of our girls in 2010. 2011 brought individual race wins by two girls, along with one of our boys receiving “all-conference honors”.
Contributing to the teams’ improvement has been the individual talent and dedication from each runner, and the presence of an “outdoor winter running club” and summer X-C Running Camp.
